I had an agent offer to represent me today.
I'm reluctant to use his name, considering the gory rebuke I had at Writersnet, but I will say that he's widely considered to be one of the top agents in New York, with hundreds upon hundreds of commercial fiction sales.
We spoke on the phone for about twenty-five minutes - almost exclusively about Fiersom's Brood - and he confirmed my fears that I was withholding too much of my backstory. Silly me. I thought it was okay to explain everything in the sequel. Anyway, he's friendly, knowledgeable, direct, and quite enthusiastic. And he appears to move quickly. I already have a contract in my email.
So yeah. I'm pretty excited. He was exactly the fifth agent I queried, on my second day of querying - barely a week ago.
I'm gonna go process this.

Wow! Congratulations! That's huge.
Ummm.....HOLY CRAP!!!!!!! BPV, that is so awesome!!! I'm totally jumping up and down for you! You're gonna sell millions and be famous. I just know it! Will you still hang out with us little people when you're fielding calls from Tim Burton about how who you envisioned to play the lead in the movie version?
Thanks, Blackbird. You get my Writer's Cafe message?
Thanks, Vivi. I will hang out with little people, but probably nobody under five-foot-two. Which I guess would include my kids.
or your sister who has big tears in her eyes from being so proud of you!! Then again it could be sleep deprovation from not being able to put your book down, seriously tears -at work even!!!
I dont know about you people, but my daddy's only gonna have time for his wonderful daughterr. :)
WHICH IS ME :)
Congradulations daddy! i love you
♥♥♥
baby, i am so proud of you. you worked so hard for this--you totally deserve this and more.
i love you!
Wow, that's freakin' huge!!!
CONGRATULAIONS!!!
No one under 5'2"?! Common anyone who can compare to your kids, at least in physical stature, can't be that bad!
I always knew this day would come, and it is even better than I imagined it! I thought Fiersom's Brood was awesome and this agent's quick and committed response is just the biggest high I think I have had as one of your cheerleaders! Congrats, keep up the good work! I knew all those dreams about Brad Pitt meant something...he IS going to be in the movie, right?!
Thank you sister, daughter, wife, and mother. Your support has meant everything to me. I love all you guys, but seriously, the five-foot-two thing still stands. That means Hailie's in, Jamie's out, and Mom and Cindy barely squeak by.
And Tracey - didn't I hear you were like four feet tall? Or maybe that you were a size four. Either way, I'm gonna need you to fill out an application for continued friendship.
I'm kidding of course. And I'm hereby retiring the 'hanging out with little people' joke for reasons of being played out. Hopefully the next commenter will start us along a new thread of humor and such-like.
(PS - Veeflower, you commented while I was commenting and I didn't see your post until I posted my post. Had to delete it and everything. Thanks for everything, and I'll see what I can do about introducing you to Bad Pritt, the no-name slob who's actually gonna star in the movie.)
Oh thank you! Of course, I only like him (Brad)for his phenomenal acting ability, and you deserve only the best! I will sleep on cloud nine tonight. Because of the agent thing, I mean! Seriously!
WOO HOO!!!! Can't wait to hear more about this, and buy your book in the stores. I'm doing a happy dance for you. :)
Forget Brad Pitt. He's like so last year. Leonardo DiCaprio is back on the forefront of Hollywood highs, and I think he's the guy to tag - such brooding intensity. Did anyone see him in "The Beach"? Awesome....incredible.....amazing actor. And Tom Cruise....he wishes he was Leo! I guess you could put Tom in as like an aging uncle with Erectile Dysfunction.
Oh, yeah, congratulations and all that crap.
No, I am NOT jealous! ;)
Wait, another word on Leo...Can it get more fabulous than his portrayal of Romeo in Baz Lurman's Romeo and Juliet? And a great action star....check him out in Blood Diamond. Seriously, if you do cast Leo, can you introduce me!?!??!?! Please!?!?!?!?
Baby steps, people, baby steps. Right now, I'm just hoping to punch through the revision process, and come out the far side with a marketable product.
Thank you, Carrie and Bunny, for your heartfelt enthusiasm. It means a lot to me.
Good stuff! I hope it works out.
I almost spit out my soup at bunnyjo's Tom Cruise comment. Uncle with erectile dysfunction just seems so appropriate for poor Tommy these days.
It was size 4, not 4'! I'm actually a towering 5'0 (if I stand nice and straight and tall).
Uh, HELLOW! Where's the update!?!?
Um, so you realize you can't say all that and not use a name. I mean honestly...I'm dying to know!
Congrats! :-)
Funny. I'm dying to use a name. Cuz he really is an incredible agent.
It's just that this one time on Writersnet, I stupidly shared some names and some comments from other agents, and it started an absolute sh%tstorm. One of the ones who skewered me was another literary agent. I thought it was just an ignorant, overzealous mistake. he saw it as disgustinly unprofessional. So I'm a little gun-shy for now.
Maybe when I talk to this guy again, I'll ask him how he feels about me making an announcement on my blog.
Are you on AW? I want you to PM it to me, lol :-) I'm dying here!
WTF!!!>!>!>????
That is awesome!!!!!!!
Wow.
Just wow.
Your wife must be so proud of you.
Yay!!!!!!
Truly great news.
HooRAY!
That's so wonderful, Congratulations!
and Amazing, just amazing, but not at all unexpected :-)
Like, where's our update!?!?!
Old news yawn!
Yeah, like he drops this huge bomb on us and then disappears for like ever. What-ev.
Way to go V! I just read the news on Pink Ink's blog. Big congrats to you. This is an awesome step to get that validation we all crave.
Here's hoping for a great sale!
Congrats and best wishes
Elizabeth and Pink: Thank-you so much for your enthusiastic well-wishes.
Bunny and Shorty: Have mercy. I'm a lil' busy over here.
Balthazar: Pink is so sweet - she made a bigger deal out of this on her blog than I did on mine. We should all go in together and buy her a tugboat. I don't know why a tugboat. But she deserves something.
S William: Thanks and welcome. I tried to check out your blog, but I couldn't open anything. Maybe cuz I'm at work. Dunno.
That is so awesome!!!
Congrats (ya big rot!) I'm happy for you (between spats of jealousy)!
Congratulations! That's a hugely exciting, majorly wonderful, absolutely inspiring accomplishment!
(I'm Vivi Alden's sister, btw. I like to make a habit of spying on her blog friends. ;) But I couldn't let such fabulous news go without comment!)
